Abstract: A mixture of soil amendment, similar to S H mixture by Sun and huang from Taiwan, was used at the rates of 1 to 2% (w/w) to control bacterial wilt caused by Pseudomonas solanacearum. Marked effects have been observed in both field and greenhouse trials. The organic and inorganic mixture consisted of 4.4% bag asse, 8.4% rice husk power, 4.25% oyster shell power, 8.25% urea, 2% KNO 3, 12% 3Ca(H 2PO 4) 2·H 2O+7CaSO 4, 5% CaO, 0.3% Na 2B 4O 7, 0.5% ZnSO 4 54 . 9% mineral ash. About 20% chicken manure were added to the mixture at the rial o f tomato field. In naturally infected field of tobacco and tomato by Ps. solan acearum, the amendment could control 59.6% and 78.3% of the disease. Heat trea tment of the soil and mixture by antoclaving, the effects could decline geatly in greenhouse. The results suggested that the mixture of soil amendment may have suppressed the pathogen through stimulating growth of saprophytic microorganisms , especially Aclinomyces and Bacillus spp.
