Abstract: The tea caterpillar, Andraca bipunctata [Lep.:Bombycidae] Granulosis Virus (AbGV) is usually effective in the control of the pest in tea gardens of Anhui Province, except under low temperatures. To enhance tbe infectivity of the virus under such conditions, low dose of Shachongshuang was used in conjunction with the virus. In the pilot field tests, applications of 150 ml of the insecticide plus 1500 mg of AbGV per ha resulted in a 83.2-93.5% mortality of the pest. This was significantly higher than the effect by using AbGV or the insecticide alone. This technique also decreased application cost, reduced tea leaf loss, and caused no evident impact on beneficial insects.
