Comparison of Ultramicromorphology and Abundance of Antennae Sensilla to Diachasmimorpha longicaudata

Abstract: Diachasmimorpha longicaudata is an important biological control agent of the oriental fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis. This paper presents and compares the ultrastructure of female and male D. longicaudata antennae as observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The SEM investigation found that the antennae have seven types of sensilla, namely sensilla trichodea, Böhm bristles, sensilla basiconca, sensilla placodea, sensilla squamiformia, sensilla coeloclnica and epidermal pores. The basic type, appearance, number and measured data of the antennae and antennal segments were found to be roughly the same between male and female wasps, although there were some key differences in the distribution and the appearance of the sensilla placodea and sensilla coeloconica between males and females.
