Abstract: Eretmocerus hayati is a dominant parasitoid of Bemisia tabaci. Understanding the mating behavior of the parasitoid is conducive to improving its large-scale reproduction technology. The mating process, number of multiple matings and mate selection of the wasp, as well as the influence of male multiple mating on female's reproduction, were observed. The mating process of E. hayati consisted of courtship, precopulatory, copulation, and postcopulatory behaviors. In females, we did not observe re-mating behavior throughout their whole life history, while males could quickly re-mate after the first mating, with a re-mating rate of 83.3% within 1 hour after the first mating and 62.5% of males completing the 3rd mating within 2 hours after the first mating. The duration of re-mating was significantly shorter than the first mating. The male multiple mating had no negative effect on male life span and parasitism by the paired female. In addition, in mate selection, virgin female wasps tended to accept males with mating experience, and competing behaviors were observed among males, which resulted in mating failure.

Key words: Bemisia tabaci, Eretmocerus hayati, multiple matings, sexual selection
