Abstract: There are tremendous species of haematophagous arthropods, most feeding on the blood of vertebrates. They not only cause anemia and dysplasia to the host, but also transmit a variety of pathogens, seriously threatening the development of animal husbandry. There are a large number of bacteria colonizing in haematophagous arthropods (such as mosquitoes, ticks), which forms symbiotic systems between arthropods and symbiotic bacteria after a long cooperative coevolution. The symbiotic bacteria play an indispensable role in the growth and development, reproduction, nutrition acquisition, blood digestion, immune activity, adaptation to the environment, and transmission of host pathogens. The study of the relationship between haematophagous arthropods and symbiotic bacteria can reveal the biological characteristics of haematophagous arthropods and provide a scientific basis for controlling haematophagous arthropods by regulating the infection mode of symbiotic bacteria, which has become a research hotspot. This paper reviewed the species, research methods, functions, and applications of arthropod symbiotic bacteria, which is expected to provide a reference for related future studies.

Key words: haematophagous arthropods, symbiotic bacteria, species, function, application
