Abstract: This study aims to screen the volatile substances that attract Eumerus alxaensis Huo & Liu for the development of attractants for E. alxaensis. The behavioral responses of unmated male and female adults and pre-oviposition females to the volatiles of Cistanche deserticoia Y. C. Ma were measured by Y-shaped olfactometer, and the trapping experiment was carried out in the forest of Haloxylon ammodendron (CA Mey.) Bunge. The laboratory tests showed that adults of E. alxaensis strongly oriented to the eight volatiles. The females had a strong reaction rate (50.0%) to 1% benzaldehyde and the males and pre-oviposition females showed high responses (60.0% and 48.4%, respectively) to caryophyllene solution. Field experiments showed that caryophyllene and eugenol in the volatiles of fleshy stems attracted E. alxaensis, with a capture catch of 13.50 and 13.60 flies/sheet in 3 days, respectively. Caryophyllene showed a stronger attracting effect on female insects, trapping 7.3 flies/sheet in 3 days, and eugenol was effective on male insects, trapping 9.12 flies/sheet in 3 days. The experimental results show that eugenol and caryophyllene can be used as the preferred compounds of E. alxaensis attractants.
