Characteristics and Herbicidal Activity of Metabolite Produced by Curvularia lunata from Digitaria sanguinalis

Abstract: The biological characteristics of Curvularia lunata(Wakker)Boedijn,strain MT-011,was tested.Results showed that MT-011 displayed excellent pathoginicity.The optimum temperature for mycelial growth was 30℃and the lethal temperature was 65℃/10 min;among carbon and nitrogen sources,D-fructose and NaNO_3 were best for mycelium growth.The optimum temperature for sporulation was 30℃,the optimum pH value for sporulation was 9.The sucrose and lysine were good for sporulation. The ranges of temperature for conidial germination were 20-40℃at which percentage of germination reached above 90%.The optimum pH value for germination was 7;alternative illumination was the best for germination;all carbon and nitrogen sources were better excepted lysin for germination.The active metabolite made the leaves yellow and wilting,which was very similar to the symptom caused by the pathogen itself.The metabolite exhibited excellent herbicidal activity against the indicator plant such as stylosanthes,capsicum and corn,and the inhibition percentage was 83.27%.
