Effects of Slope and Raining Day on Spread of Kiwi Canker Disease

Abstract: Kiwi canker is a bacterial disease caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv.actinidiae(Psa),which seriously affects the development of kiwifruit industry.Determination of disease spread in fields is of great significance for management of the disease.We investigated the incidence of the disease in Bandaonan kiwifruit orchard in Chibi City,Hubei Province from April 16 to 22,2020 and from March 24 to 30,2021.Pathogen traps were used for 24-hour continuous pathogen capture at different terrain areas with slopes of 10°,30°and 45°in kiwifruit garden in raining and sunny days.Days necessary for kiwi healthy leaves placed inside the traps to show symptoms were used to indicate the spread of the disease.Results showed that the period needed for the leaves to show symptoms at 10°slope area was 1-2 days shorter than that in the 30°and 45°slope areas.Days required for the disease symptom to appear were 7 in raining days,while that was 10 to 12 in sunny weather.We therefore concluded that field slope and raining days could speed up the spread of kiwi canker disease in kiwifruit orchard significantly.The above results are of significance in management of the disease.
