Abstract: Cnaphalocrocis medinalis granulovirus,CnmeGV,is a specific pathogenic baculovirus of rice pest C.medinalis.This study analyzed the sub-lethal effects of CnemGV on the growth, reproduction, and physiology of C.medinalis to provide a theoretical basis for the application of the baculovirus for C.medinalis control.CnmeGV was generally detected in the surviving larvae at 10 days post treatment of 1×105 OB/g dose of CnmeGV to the 3rd instar larvae of C.medinalis, resulting in sub-lethal effect on C.medinalis.Sub-lethal effect greatly affected the development of C.medinalis, especially in the metamorphosis process of pupation, eclosion, and oviposition. The pupal weight was decreased by 15.95%,eclosion rate was reduced by 24.81%,oviposition was dropped by 41.5%,significantly different from that of the control. The ratio of female to male was also declined from 1.11 to 0.82.The sub-lethal effect of CnmeGV enhanced the energy metabolism of larvae, with the activities of amylase and lipase raised remarkably.Among detoxification enzymes, the activity of GST was improved, while ACT level was dropped significantly compared to that of the control. The sub-lethal of CnmeGV influenced the secretion of hormones. The levels of juvenile and molting hormone were declined by 5.62 and 4.59 folds, respectively.Vitellogenin content was reduced at about 40.63% in the sub-lethal treatment, which may be responsible for the reduced oviposition rate.
