A New Species of Entedon Dalman (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae, Entedoninae) Parasitizing Megabruchidius dorsalis Fåhraeus

Abstract

Abstract: A new species of Entedon Dalman (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae, Entedoninae) namely, E. zhijinense Wu, sp. nov. is reported from Guizhou province. It is recorded as a gregarious larval endoparasitoid of Megabruchidius dorsalis Fåhraeus (Coleoptera:Curculionidae), a significant pest of Gleditsia sinensis Lam. This new species is closely related to E. nomizonis Kamijo but could be readily distinguished by the following characteristics. In the females, midtibia and hindtibia of E. zhijinense has larger dark area at the base and smaller yellow area at the apex, in contrast with E. nomizonis. In the male, E. zhijinense has slightly swollen scape and oblong gaster, and hindtibia with basal 2/5 dark, while E. nomizonis has strongly swollen scape and obovate gaster, and hindtibia with basal 1/4 dark. In host range, E. zhijinense primarily parasitizes Megabruchidius in the family Bruchidae, while E. nomizonis parasitizes Rhynchaenus in the family Curculionidae. Specimens were collected from Zhijin County of Guizhou province, and the type specimen was kept in the Insect Herbarium of Guizhou Academy of Forestry.
