Abstract: Metaphycus parasaissetiae Zhang and Huang is a newly recorded endoparasitoid of Parasaissetia nigra(Nietner)adults. The natural parasitic rate of this wasp is about 15.68%.Its morphology, development, reproduction, survival and behavior were studied in the laboratory. At 26±1℃and 70%±5%RH,the average number of parasitoids emerged from each host was 4.5, among which 80.6%were females.Eggs in the ovaries of unmated female matured after 1 d,but the development of the eggs in a female's ovary was not consistent. It took 15 to 19 d for the wasp to complete one generation under the laboratory condition.Larval molting was not obvious. The unmated females could only produce male progeny by parthenogenesis.Unmated females could lay eggs within 24 h after eelosion and the average amount of males emerged from each host was 5.3 under the laboratory condition. The mated female adults oviposited within 24 h and the oviposition lasted 1-17 d.A mated female adult laid 3 to 76 eggs during its life span, parasitizing 1-10 hosts.Daily oviposition rate of the parasitoid was 8.2±4.0 eggs. The longevities of males and females without nutritional supplements were less than 3 d under the laboratory condition, but were prolonged with supplement of honey solution.
