Plant Root Exudates Enhance Steinernema feltiae Infection of Bactrocera dorsalis

Abstract: Steinernema feltiae are important biocontrol nematodes with strong infectivity, a wide host range and high safety. This work explored the suitable concentration and temperature for S. feltiae to infect Bactrocera dorsalis larvae, and examined whether plant root secondary metabolites affect the infection rate of S. feltiae. The results showed that the infection efficiency of S. feltiae was the highest at 28℃, with the optimal infection efficiency achieving at a concentration of 30 nematodes per B. dorsalis larvae. Lysine and Ethanolamine could significantly enhance mortality rate of nematodes to hosts. It was found that SPc advanced the larval death peak by 24 hours without changing the final mortality rate. This study has clarified the suitable conditions for Steinernema to infect B. dorsalis larvae and the related synergistic substances, providing a basis for the use of S. feltiae in the field control of B. dorsalis.
