Abstract: The effects of crude extracts of garlic volatiles and their four standardized compounds (diallyl disulfide, dibutyl phthalate, 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol, and 2,6-di-tert-butyl-p-cresol) on the feeding orientation time and development of the green peach aphid, Myzus persicae, were investigated to provide a reference for controlling M. persicae. Bioassay methods were used in the tests. Both the crude extracts of garlic volatiles and the four standardized compounds significantly affected the feeding orientation time of M. persicae. At a volume ratio of 1:150, except for dibutyl phthalate, the feeding orientation times of the other three compounds were significantly prolonged compared to the control. Garlic volatiles significantly affected the developmental period and fecundity of M. persicae. The crude extract of garlic volatiles at 40 mL/L delayed the development of the 2―3 instar nymphs of M. persicae for 20.60 hours compared to the control. Among the different concentrations of the four standardized compounds, 2500 mg/L diallyl disulfide, 2500 mg/L dibutyl phthalate, and 500 mg/L 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol also prolonged development for 9.20 hours, 9.40 hours, and 9.60 hours, respectively, compared to the control. The control group treated with crude garlic volatile extracts produced 72.38 offspring, while the group treated with 20 mL/L crude extract produced the lowest number of offspring of 66.79. The control group treated with standardized garlic volatile compounds produced 79.19 offspring, with the highest number of offspring (75.23) produced in treatment with 100 mg/L diallyl disulfide, and the lowest number of offspring (64.78) produced in treatment with 100 mg/L dibutyl phthalate. These results show that garlic volatiles and their standardized compounds shorten the feeding orientation time of M. persicae and significantly affect the developmental period and fecundity of the aphids. This provides a theoretical basis for exploring the interaction between non-host plant volatiles and insects, and also offers references for developing plant protection agents containing garlic volatiles and intercropping garlic to control M. persicae.
