Abstract: Effect of Pseudomonas syringae on cold tolerance of the Asian corn borer larvae, Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenée), was analyzed by measureing the supercooling point. Results indicated that cold resistance of the non diapause 5th instar O. furnacalis larvae was stronger than that of other age groups. The cold resistance of the 5th instar diapause O. furnacalis larvae was higher than that of non diapause 5th instar larvae. When treated with Pseudomonas syringae for 24 h, the supercooling point and freezing point of non diapause 5th instar O. furnacalis larvae increased by 5.14℃ and 2.83℃, respectively; and diapause 5th instar larvae increased by 11.46℃ and 4.65℃, respectively. P. syringae (at concentration of 8×108 cfu/ml) had a good insecticidal effect on O. furnacalis, with mortality rate of non-diapause 5th instar larvae being 39.1% under 15℃ after 24 h.
