Effect of Low Temperature Storage Duration on Breeding of Sclerodermus alternatusi Yang (Hymenoptera:Bethylidae)

Abstract: IThe optimal low temperature storage duration of Sclerodermus alternatusi Yang (Hymenoptera:Bethylidae) females was determined by measuring the survival of parental parasitoids and offspring population size and developmental duration of parental parasitoids stored at 10℃ for varying durations.The results showed that the mortality of S.alternatusi females increased with the storage duration,varying from 6.90% at storage of 60 days to 42.46% at storage of 120 days.The life span of S.alternatusi males was shorter than that of females.The duration of immature stage of S.alternatusi offspring was significantly affected by storage duration,the pre-oviposition period of S.alternatusi females was shortened by short low temperature storage.And the offspring developmental duration elongated with the increase of low temperature storage duration,among which the egg stage was about 3-4 d in all storage duration treatments,and the durations of larval stage、pupal stage and immature stage differed significantly between storage duration treatments.The total offspring number and the female number decreased with the elongation of storage duration,and the total offspring number and the female number were 59.96 and 57.92,respectively,for the no-storage parental parasitoids,but dropped to 30.52 and 26.04,respectively,in the parental parasitoids stored for 150 days.The results show that,at 10℃,the optimal storage duration for the parasitoids is 60 days,and the longest storage should be less than 120 days.The study provides reference for rearing and application of S.alternatusi in control of the longhorn beetles.
