Abstract: Essential oils were extracted from Zanthoxylum austrosinense fruits, Z. ailanthoides fruits, and Murraya hunanensis leaves by steam distillation. The fumigation insecticidal activity, fumigation knockdown effect and synergistic effects of certain mixtures of these essential oils against Musca domestica L. were tested by triangular bottle closed fumigation method. The results showed that 6-h-fumigation LC50 values of essential oils from Z. austrosinense, Z. ailanthoides, and M. hunanensis against M. domestica were 7.55, 11.08 and 11.41 μg/cm3, respectively. At the fumigation concentration of 10 μL/345 mL, KT50 values of essential oils from Z. austrosinense, Z. ailanthoides, and M. hunanensis against M. domestica were 16.80, 24.69 and 23.33 min, respectively. The co-toxicity coefficient of Z. austrosinense oil and Z. ailanthoides oil mixed at a volume ratio of 7:3 and 9:1 against M. domestica were 130.00 and 136.08, respectively. The co-toxicity coefficient of Z. austrosinense oil and M. hunanensis oil mixed at a volume ratio of 9:1 against M. domestica was 123.71. The results indicate that the three essential oils possess high fumigation insecticidal activity and fumigation knockdown effect against M. domestica, and certain ratio mixtures of these oils show remarkable synergistic effect of fumigation against M. domestica. These essential oils have the potential to be developed into an effective and eco-friendly insecticide.
