Abstract: The parasitic potential of a native larval parasitic wasp Microplitis tuberculifer (Wesmael) on Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) larvae at 4, 6 and 8 d after hatching was measured under laboratory conditions. The cocooning rates of M. tuberculifer parasitizing on 4-d-old and 6-d-old S. frugiperda larvae were 64.97% and 87.01%, respectively, significantly higher than that on 8-d-old larvae (24.88%). Significant differences in the mortality of S. frugiperda larvae parasitized by M. tuberculifer were also observed, the highest mortality recorded in the 8-d-old larvae and lower mortalities in 4-d-old and 6-d-old larvae. Larval development durations of M. tuberculifer parasitizing on the 4-, 6-and 8-day-old S. frugiperda larvae were 8.98 d, 7.71 d and 9.07 d, respectively. The percentage of malformed cocoons on the 4-, 6-and 8-day-old S. frugiperda larvae were high, and significant differences were recorded. The results provide a basic information for the effective control of S. frugiperda in the field.
