Abstract: Two strains JL003 and JL005 of pathogenic fungi were isolated from overwintering Chilo suppressalis larvae collected in Jilin province. The species were identified morphologically and using molecular systematics analysis of rDNA-ITS sequence. Meanwhile, the virulence of both strains against 3rd and 6th instars of C. suppressalis was determined using the dipping method. The strains JL003 and JL005 were identified to be Lecanicillium attenuatum and Beauveria bassiana, respectively, L. attenuatum being a first report from C. suppressalis in China. Pathogenicity study indicated the mortalities of C. suppressalis 3rd and 6th instars caused by L. attenuatum were 53.0% and 46.0%, respectively; those resulted from B. bassiana were 94.0% and 93.0%, respectively. Generally, B. bassiana exhibits high potential for biological control of C. suppressalis.
