Abstract: Predation potential of Neoseiulus californicus on Tetranychus ludeni was investigated with functional response. The results showed that the predation fitted well with HollingⅡtype. The predation ability of N. californicus on T. ludeni was the strongest at 28℃, and the a/Th was 51.9750. The selective coefficient Q of egg, larva, and nymph were 0.87, 0.90 and 1.22, respectively. The control ability of N. californicus on T. ludeni was ranked as larva >egg >nymphs. Under the same density, searching efficiency of N. californicus on T. ludeni increased first and then decreased with temperature increase, being the highest (0.9074) at 28℃; at the same temperature, searching efficiency decreased with increase in prey density, being the lowest (0.3367) at prey density of 16. Therefore N. californicus show a high predatory ability on T. ludeni and has the potential for application in biocontrol.
