Abstract: The Japanese pine sawyer beetle, Monochamus alternatus, is of pest status and potential risks in our country. The sterility irradiation technology is considered an environment-friendly alternative to insecticides for control of this pest. In this study, the influences of 60Coγ-ray irradiation of different dosages on feeding, excretion, mating, oviposition, longevity and reproductive capacity ofM. alternatus were evaluated. And the irradiation dosage of 60Coγ-ray against M. alternatus was tested. This study provided a foundation for the practical application of this technology to control M. alternatus. The males irradiated by 60Coγ-ray of 150, 200, 250 and 300 Gy dosages maintained the normal levels of feeding, longevity and excretion. The mating ability of males irradiated by four dosages of 60Coγ-ray with females was normal, although the mated females oviposited, no eggs hatched. When the ratio of females, normal males and irradiated males was 1:1:6, the 150 Gy of 60Coγ-ray showed a better control efficiency and only 2.63% of the eggs hatched. Therefore, the 150 Gy of 60Coγ-ray is recommended for practical application.
