Abstract: Using sex pheromone can suppress the insect population by attracting male insects and disturbing mating of insects. The effects of host sex pheromone on egg parasitoids and whether it could be used synergistically with egg parasitoids are not known. In this study, the parasitisms of host eggs sprayed with different concentrations of sex pheromone compound of Chilo suppressalis by Trichogramma japonicum were investigated in the laboratory and parasitisms by Trichogramma wasps in the field with and without host sex pheromone lures were compared. The results indicated that sex pheromone of C. suppressalis significantly affected parasitization of host eggs by T. japonicum. When the concentration of sex pheromone increased from 0.01 μg/μL to 10 μg/μL, the parasitism decreased from 50.29% to 1.71%. Parasitism of host eggs treated with host sex pheromone was lower than that in control. However, the female proportion of Trichogramma offspring was not affected by the sex pheromone. The trap lure affected the parasitism of egg mass of C. suppressalis by Trichogramma in the field. Parasitism by T. japonicum was higher in egg masses far from trap lure than that near the trap lure. The trap lure attracted natural T. dendrolimi and T. ostriniae. These results indicate that sex pheromone of C. suppressalis affects the parasitizaiton of T. japonicum and the reaction of Trichogramma to trap lure of C. suppressalis are different among Trichogramma species.
