Abstract: In order to clarify the effect on plant root of Bacillus subtilis PTS-394 water powder and its impact on the microbial community in rhizosphere, the pepper root growth, root activity, the amount of microbial of rhizosphere and soil enzyme activity were measured. The results showed that B. subtilis PTS-394 WP (1:100) dilution has ability to promote the growth of pepper root and can increase the root dry weight and root activity. The root length and weight were about 11.60 cm and 0.155 g at 25 day after application of PTS-394 WP (1:100) and higher 8.61% and 19.2% than control respectively. The root activity was stimulated significantly at 12 and 24 h after treatment with PTS-394 WP (1:100). Then, the root activity was decreased to the almost same level with control at sampling time point 96 h. The lower PTS-394 WP (1:1000) dilution has a same effect on the pepper root, but not significantly. After the application of PTS-394 WP (1:100), the amount of rhizosphere soil fungus and actinomycetes were suppressed, the highest inhibitory rates were 63.6% and 69.5% respectively; while the bacterium amount was almost the same as control. In another hand, PTS-394 WP (1:100) is able to increase the soil urease and sucrase activity. All above results were not only expand the use of PTS-394 WP, but enriched the growth promotion mechanisms of B. subtilis PTS-394 on pepper and provided a theoretical basis for the safety of application in the field.
