Species Diversity and Niche of Metarhizium spp. in the Rhizosphere of Phyllostachys edulis in Jizhao Mountains, Guangde City

Abstract: Rhizosphere Metarhizium strains were isolated from the roots of Phyllostachys edulis collected in autumn and winter of 2018 and spring and summer of 2019 from six sample plots set up at different altitudes and different slope directions in Jizhao Mountains, Guangde City, Anhui Province for analysis of the composition and niche distribution of Metarhizium in the rhizosphere of Phyllostachys edulis. The isolated strains were identified with the classic morphological classification and molecular methods. The results showed that four Metarhizium species including M. robertsii, M. pingshaense, M. guizhouense and an unknown species of Metarhizium were identified from the isolates. The dominant species is M. robertsii, distributing widely at 100 m above sea level, while Metarhizium sp. commonly distributes at 400 m above sea level. The population size of M. robertsii peaked in summer, while those of the other three species decreased with the progress of the month. The width and overlap of spatial niche of the four species of Metarhizium showed obvious changes with progress of month. The temporal niche width maximized in M. sp and minimized in M. guizhouense, the temporal niche of Metarhizium. sp and M. guizhouense overlapped the most, and the temporal niche of M. guizhouense and M. robertsii overlapped the least.
