Research Progress on Intraguild Predation among Natural Enemies of Tuta absoluta

Abstract: As a highly destructive invasive pest, Tuta absoluta poses a significant threat to global tomato production. Biological control represents a key strategy for mitigating its damage, on which intraguild predation(IGP) may play a crucial role in determining the effectiveness of such control measures. Although several review papers have summarized advances in biological control and integrated pest management techniques for T. absoluta, relatively few have specifically addressed the influence of IGP. Therefore, this study systematically reviewed both domestic and international literature on the biological control of T. absoluta, with a particular focus on intraguild predation. Furthermore, we conducted an in-depth analysis of IGP interactions among the primary natural enemies of this pest, elucidating how these predatory relationships affect biological control outcomes—particularly in terms of their impacts on natural enemy population dynamics, functional responses, and overall control efficacy. Finally, we proposed potential directions for future research, aiming to provide a solid theoretical foundation and practical guidance for the effective deployment of natural enemies in managing T. absoluta, thereby contributing to the optimization of sustainable biological control strategies and integrated pest management practices.
