Abstract: 3 kinds of plant: young stem of kalanchoe (Kalanchoe bolssfeldiana), soybean (Glycine max) sprout and leaf of jade tree (Crassula portulacea) were tested to be used as oviposition plant for Orius sauteri. No significant difference in egg laying preference, number of eggs laid, preoviposition and oviposition period and longevity of the female were observed between bugs oviposited on these plants. Supplied with rice moth eggs or aphids as food, O. sauteri had a preoviposition period of 3.3 d, laid 42.1 eggs in 9.7 d and lived for 15.0 d. Eggs laid in kalanchoe had a high hatching rate and could safely be stored for 13 d at 4-6℃ and the nymph stages of Orius also developed well on this plant. Beside, kalanchoe could be more easily cultivated than soybean sprout and jade tree leaves, so kalanchoe is considered as a better oviposition plant for Orius in mass rearing.
