Abstract: Gastrophysa atrocyanea is an important natural enemy of weeds in crop fields. Host specificity studies of this leaf beetle showed that it only attacked weeds belonging to the family Polygonaceae, especially genus Rumex. Compelled feeding to 36 economic plant species in 11 families showed no agricultural crops were damaged. G. atrocyanea is considered as a potential bio-control agent of Rumex weeds.
