Screening of Flight Parameters of Plant Protection UAV Spraying Beauveria bassiana Formulation to Control Chilo suppressalis (Walker)

Abstract: The optimal flight parameters of plant protection UAV suitable for Beauveria bassiana formulation spraying to control rice stem borer were established with the Dajiang T20 plant protection UAV through measuring the effects of different flight parameters (height and speed) on the deposition of B. bassiana formulation (the number of fungal conidia deposited per unit area). The optimal flight parameters were tested in the field experiments for their effects on pest control. The results showed that the deposition of B. bassiana formulation was significant influenced by both the flight height and speed of UAV, with the flight height being more important and no significant interaction of the two factors. When the flight height was 1.5 m and the flight speed was 3.0 m/s-5.0 m/s, the deposition of B. bassiana formulation was higher than those of the other flight treatments; when the flight height was 1.5 m and the flight speed was 5.0 m/s, the control efficiency against rice stem borer was 75.34% in field experiment. In conclusions, the optimal flight parameters for the plant protection UAV to spray B. bassiana formulation for rice stem borer control are flight height of 1.5 m and flight speed of 5.0 m/s, which can achieve a pest control efficiency of more than 75%. Herein it is of significance for large-scale application plant protection UAV to spray B. bassiana formulation for rice stem borer control in field.
