Abstract: In this study, a digital camera was used to monitor the oviposition behavior of the parasitoid Pteromalus puparum Linnaeus on pupa of Pieris melete Ménétriés. The procedure of oviposition was summarized as guarding, probing, oviposition and cleaning. The oviposition activity showed a distinct circadian rhythm, with fewer activities at night and more activities at daytime. Oviposition occurred mainly during 11:00 to 17:00 and peaked between 14:00 and 15:00. In addition, oviposition frequency of P. puparum was positively correlated with time spent in oviposition. With the increase of total oviposition time and frequency, more offsprings were obtained. The time spent in oviposition increased with host pupal age. The female adults of P. puparum preferred fresh pupa (1st day pupa) as host for oviposition.
