Abstract: The Asian corn borer, Ostrnia furnacalis (Guenée), is the most destructive insect pest for corn production in Heilongjiang Province. Field control of O. furnacalis by Bacillus thuringiensis G033A (Bt G033A) in the two generation region was evaluated through application of Bt G033A against the first and second generation Ostrnia furnacalis at whorl and ear stage of corn. Results showed that the average control efficiency was 90.6% and the corn yield loss was reduced by 7.8% when the Bt G033A was sprayed once at both the whorl and the ear stage (targeting the first and the second generation of Asian corn borer young larvae, respectively). The control efficiency and the yield loss reduction were significantly higher than that achieved by only spray once at the whorl or the ear stage (i.e., one spray at either the first generation or the second generation of Asian corn borer larvae). Therefore, in the severe two generations regions, it is suggested that Bt G033A be sprayed once at both the whorl and the ear stage of corn, which can obviously increase the control efficiency and reduce yield loss. In the two generation regions where Asian corn borer occurs slightly or in one generation regions, Bt G033A can be sprayed once at the whorl stage of corn. These results are expected to benefit the green control of Asian corn borer in the two generation region.
