Abstract: The effects of seven adjuvants on the solution characteristics and herbicidal activity of nicosulfuron were investigated through laboratory analyses and field trials for the synergistic effect of adjuvants on herbicide in the dose-reduced application. The results showed that the seven adjuvants significantly reduced the surface tension and contact angle and expanded the spread of pesticide droplet. Among the seven adjuvants, Jiexiaoli had higher reduction of surface tension and contact angle and expansion of spread of the droplets than the other adjuvants. With addition of Jiexiaoli 0.05%-0.2%, the surface tension and contact angle of nicosulfuron droplets were reduced by 41.52%-47.69% and 49.87%-66.23%, respectively, and the spread of the droplets was increased by 59.94%-150.13%. In contrast, addition of Shentouzhe, Beichuang and Maisi prolonged the drying time of the droplets significantly by 3.84%-36.69%, 17.20%-23.57% and 3.02%-18.01%, respectively, over that of the control droplets. The results of field trials showed that Maisi and Shentouzhe had better synergistic effects on nicosulfuron than the other adjuvants, reducing the application dose of nicosulfuron by 25%-40%. Maisi and Shentouzhe can be applied as effective adjuvants with nicosulfuron.
