Abstract: Xinjiang is rich in natural enemy resources and has important development potential and utilization prospect. In order to provide scientific guidance for the protection and utilization of natural enemy resources in Xinjiang, a systematic investigation of lady beetle resources in corn producing areas was carried out by the method of net capturing and visual observation. A total sample of 1503 specimens, belonging to 3 subfamily, 13 genera and 20 species was collected. Hippodamia variegate (Goeze) and Stethorus (Stethorus) punctillum (Weise) are the dominant lady beetle species in the corn growing areas in Xinjiang, Adalia conglomerata Linneaus is a new record of lady beetle species in Xinjiang. There were significant differences in the lady beetle species and population size between the corn growing areas. There were 11 species in Yining county in Yili prefecture, while there was only 1 species in Alar city in Aksu region. The diversity analysis showed that the diversity index, the richness index and the evenness index of lady beetle community were high while the dominance index was low in Yili prefecture. In Bayingolin Mongol prefecture, the diversity index was the lowest, and the evenness index was low, but the dominance was the highest. The similarity analysis showed that there was a high degree of similarity coefficients among prefectures, with similarity coefficient of 32 prefectures (accounting for 58.2% of all the prefectures) of ≥ 0.5. Among them, the similarity coefficient of lady beetles collected from Bayingolin prefecture and Hotan prefecture was the highest (0.83). Therefore, lady beetle species and population size in the corn producing areas of Xinjiang are plentiful, which guarantees a strong natural control ability, provides scientific basis for the sustainable development of green agriculture through protection and utilization of natural enemies.
