Abstract: Bacterial biofilm (BBF) is a cell population that grows on the surfaces of solid-liquid and gas-liquid and blocks in the exopolysaccharide matrix, and can regulate the ability of bacteria to adapt to environmental stress. It can also improve the resistance of bacteria to stress environments, including ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Herein, it is a protective growth of bacteria. Biological control agents (BCAs) have been the focus of researches in the field of biopesticide because of their long-term inhibition of diseases and control of insect pests in an environmentally friendly manner. This article describes the BBFs and their applications. Taking Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) and Bacillus subtilis (Bs) as main examples, it also reviews the effects of biofilms on biocontrol activities, the regulatory mechanisms of the formation and dispersion of biofilm, the identification methods of biofilm-related genes, and points out the future research directions for biocontrol with BBF traits. We aim to provide new ideas for solving the application problems of BCAS such as relative short field duration.

Key words: bacterial biofilm, biological control agents, biological control, regulatory pathway, field duration
