Abstract: Cyrtorhinus lividipennis is one of the most important predatory natural enemies of rice planthoppers in Asia. Developing an efficient rearing procedure for this natural enemy is important to the green and sustainable management of planthoppers and basic research of the predator. A simple yet practical mass rearing procedure for the predator was established, with young rice seedlings as oviposition hosts and natural host brown planthoppers as prey. The rearing kits, procedure and methods were detailed. The mass rearing procedure can continuously produce cohorts of C. lividipennis adults. In a 6-month period, cohorts of C. lividipennis adults of 1000—1600 per day were produced from a 10-square meter rearing room. The developed procedure is suitable for long-term mass rearing of C. lividipennis and can serve as a reference for the mass rearing of other predatory natural enemies.

Key words: Cyrtorhinus lividipennis, predatory natural enemy, rearing procedure, mass rearing
