Abstract: Sesame is one of the nectar plants that are suitable for rice eco-system. However, the effects of sesame on Trichogramma japonicum, the dominant Trichogramma species in rice field, have not been studied. In the present study, the effects of sesame on fecundity and dispersal capability of T. japonicum were investigated under laboratory and field conditions. Laboratory results indicated that sesame flower significantly improved the fecundity of T. japonicum on Corcyra cephalonica eggs and the initial dispersal capability of the wasp. The percentage of initial flyers decreased from 71.4% to 50.5%, while the percentage of total dispersal wasps increased from 91.9% to 95.4%. The field results showed that planting sesame on the field ridge could increase the fecundity of T. japonicum for approximately 30% and their dispersal distance as far as 20-25 m from the ridge. In summary, sesame flower can significantly improve the fecundity and dispersal capability of the wasp.
