Control Efficiency of Various Attractants and Repellents on the Jujube Fruit Fly,Carpomya vesuviana Costa

Abstract: This study aims to identify volatile attractants and repellents for adult Carpomya vesuviana Costa, thereby offering insights for the environmentally friendly control of the pest. Five types of host volatiles and four repellent substances were placed in slow-release bags, and set at varying distances and release rates. The attraction and repulsion effects on adult C. vesuviana under different treatments were monitored, and the synergistic action of attractants and repellents was clarified. Among the five volatile compounds from host plants, ethyl caproate(emission rate 0.43 m L/d) attracted the most flies(66.67 individuals/trap), followed by ethyl valerate(emission rate 0.52 mL/d, 64.33 individuals/trap). Among the four repellents, camphor essential oil showed the best performance, followed by holly essential oil. Distance affected repelling efficiency, a distance of 2 m was the best, followed by 4 m. The combined use of attractants and repellents exhibited a better control efficiency on adult C. vesuviana than the use of attractants or repellents alone, with the control efficiency reaching 68.32%. Ethyl valerate can serve as an effective adult C. vesuviana attractant, while camphor essential oil can act as an effective adult C. vesuviana repellent. The combined use of both can provide an effective solution for the green management of C. vesuviana.
