Abstract: Certain fungus has shown effective control as biological pesticide for various agricultural and forest pests. However, production of microbial preparations is comparatively expensive and time-consuming, which greatly affects the production efficiency. In this study, the optimal synergist concentration to increase the spore production of Metarhizium anisopliae, Metarhizium flavoviride, and Beauveria bassiana by liquid-solid two-phase fermentation was screened. The results showed that 0.1% synergist had the highest spore-promoting effect on M. anisopliae, with a spore concentration of 4.48×109 per gram. Optimal synergist concentration for M. anisopliae was 0.05%, which produced spore concentration of 2.75×109 per gram. Synergist concentration of <0.1% was beneficial for spore production of M. anisopliae, whereas concentration of >0.1% inhibited the sporulation. In contrast, the spore production of B. bassiana was positively correlated with the concentration of synergist, reaching the maximum spore concentration of 7.41×109 per gram. Adding sporulation synergists in the fungal liquid fermentation process has effectively enhanced the fungal spore production, shortened the fungal culture cycle, and thus improved the production efficiency and reduced production cost of fungal preparations.
