Abstract: To explore the changes of cold tolerance and related biochemical substances in diapause and post-diapause Orius sauteri, the super-cooling point (SCP), mortality at low temperature, and contents of cryoprotectant were determined in O. sauteri female adults under normal development, in diapause and at post-diapause. The SCP and FP (freezing point) of female adults were (-9.59±0.61) ℃ and (-6.28±0.53) ℃, respectively. The SCP, FP and content of free water in diapausing and post-diapause nymphs were significantly lower than those in normal development individuals. However, total carbohydrate, trehalose, glycerin, total-fat and activities of stress-tolerant enzymes in diapausing nymphs were significantly higher than those in the normal development ones. The content of sorbitol in diapause insects was not significantly different from those in the other treatments. The results indicate that the cold tolerance of diapause O. sauteri is improved, which is probably related with the increase of the content of total carbohydrate, trehalose, glycerin, total-fat and activities of stress-tolerant enzymes
