Suitable Stage and Conditions for Low Temperature Storage of Eocanthecona furcellata

Abstract: Eocanthecona furcellata is an important predatory insect,which can effectively control Lepidoptera agricultural pests such as Spodoptera frugiperda.Low temperature storage is an important sector for large-scale production and release of insect natural enemies.In this study,we determined the suitable low-temperature storage stage of E.furcellata and the effects of low temperature and food conditions on the longevity,survival rate and median lethal time of E.furcellata.The results showed that adult was the optimal storage stage,and low temperature storage of adults produced better storage results than those obtained with storage of nymphs and eggs.When E.furcellata adults were stored at low temperature and provided with water,or water and food,the storage result was better than that obtained in the food group and hungry group.When food and water were concurrently provided,female adults stored at 16℃ and male adults stored at 10 d or 13℃ lived a lifespan of 49.78 d,39.41d and 44.00 d,respectively,or 22.00 d,25.33 d and 21.00 d,respectively,with 80% survival rate,and exhibited LT50 of 49.32 d,38.98 d and 43.62 d,respectively.Thus it is recommended that E.furcellata adults be stored at 16℃(female) or 10―13℃(male) with food and water supplied at the same time.
